Role as a volunteer: Assistance in mealtimes is of utmost importance since you will be constantly ensuring the vulnerable patients in consuming the needed food and beverage to support their health.
This kind of role is an opportunity to help the patients get better and prevent malnutrition.
Mealtime assistance consists of various things, from making encouraging conversations with patients to enlighten their days, open food packages, preparation of meals for easy food intake, completing menus or provide patients accessible ways for foods and beverages. Trained volunteers can also be task for feeding certain patients.
Volunteers must have a happy disposition and level-headedness with the appropriate passion and care with the seniors.
Commitment: 1-2 shifts per week for a minimum of 6 months
Choices for shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 9:30am OR
Monday to Friday, 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm OR
Monday Friday, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Skills required: Must be available during the daytime or early evening, with enough patience, outgoing personality, and positive energy to deal with delicate patients
Additional Information
Required language: English; French is an advantage
Transportation: Close to bus or streetcar stop; provided with free parking available, first come first served
Minimum age: None
Minimum hours: 3 hours per week
Task requirements: walking and standing, hearing, verbal communication, visual
Accessibility: Accessible building, parking, washroom(s)
