Role as a volunteer:

YIELD (Youth Initiative & Excellence with Learning Disabilities) is a program provided through the LDATD that offers a free course to assist young people from ages 15 to 30 who are suffering from learning disabilities attain their academic and professional goals.

A female volunteer is needed who can deliver 1:1 support for a young person with learning disabilities. Commitment to the goal and system of the program is of utmost importance.

Volunteers are required on Saturdays 12:30pm-5:00pm each week from January 2019 until March 28, 2020. One of the program’s key components is that the volunteer will work with the participants every week.

Skills, Experience:

Knowledge of and experience with youth with learning disabilities, ADHD and Autism
Experience working with youth (15 to 30 years old) who have special needs
Good communication skills and fluent in English
Good listener, empathetic, non-judgmental, friendly, patient, gentle

Additional Information

Mandatory initial orientation to agency and programs
Training specific to the position will take place prior and during your volunteering
On-going communication with program staff
Minimum age: 18
Minimum hours per week: Saturdays 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Task/ requirements: Female volunteer, hearing, verbal communication, visual, reading and writing

Other Requirements: Applicants are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (forms provided by CICC), Provide 2 references
