Role as a volunteer:
YIELD (Youth Initiative & Excellence with Learning Disabilities) is a program provided through the LDATD that offers a free course to assist young people from ages 15 to 30 who are suffering from learning disabilities attain their academic and professional goals.
A female volunteer is needed who can deliver 1:1 support for a young person with learning disabilities. Commitment to the goal and system of the program is of utmost importance.
Volunteers are required on Saturdays 12:30pm-5:00pm each week from January 2019 until March 28, 2020. One of the program’s key components is that the volunteer will work with the participants every week.
Skills, Experience:
- Knowledge of and experience with youth with learning disabilities, ADHD and Autism
- Experience working with youth (15 to 30 years old) who have special needs
- Good communication skills and fluent in English
- Good listener, empathetic, non-judgmental, friendly, patient, gentle
Additional Information
- Mandatory initial orientation to agency and programs
- Training specific to the position will take place prior and during your volunteering
- On-going communication with program staff
- Minimum age: 18
- Minimum hours per week: Saturdays 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm
- Task/ requirements: Female volunteer, hearing, verbal communication, visual, reading and writing
Other Requirements: Applicants are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (forms provided by CICC), Provide 2 references
