A large group of UWindsor residence students enjoyed a free evening of fun in the St. Denis Centre pool to cool down after the first day of classes, Sept. 8.
Charlotte Zettel is the residence events coordinator at UWindsor and runs each of the four rezEvent sub-sections – rezArts, rezEco, rezOutreach and rezSports. The focus of the swimming party and all of the rezSports events throughout the year revolve around getting students active and Zettel said it was rewarding to see over 30 students enjoy a new and largely unknown aspect on campus.
“The pool is not very well known on campus and most of the students have never been in her before,” said Zettel. “A couple of people didn’t know how to swim so we had a personal swim lesson for them. We’re definitely happy with how many people came out and how much fun they had. We had a group here over 90 minutes and they were still having fun so it’s good to see them enjoy it.”
First year media, communications and film student Gabriel Giuliani won a $15 Milestones gift card at the event, which raffled off prizes every 30 minutes. Giuliani and a group of floor-mates from residence went to the event and said it was a unique and fun alternative way to get active.
“It was nice being able to hang out with my friends, it was a good time to bring us together,” said Giuliani. “We all got a little bit closer by seeing some of each others interests, likes, dislikes and hidden talents. We didn’t know how strong each other could swim and it was good to be able to hang out, chill out with some tunes and do something other than sitting inside and watching TV.”
